Rice composer's piece inspired by killing of cousin in Iraq

The concert series is divided into music before conflict, which was performed Nov. 18, wartime (Dec. 2) and war's aftermath (Dec. 16), said Natalie Zelkin, a former West University resident who organized the chamber music series. Tickets for the 2 p.m. concerts are $15 for museum members and $30 for adults, with discounts for senior adults, students and children or when purchased in advance online. Concert tickets include same-day general museum admission and entry to the photo exhibit. Al-Zand, 42, lives on the Rice campus as a residential college master, along with his wife, Bereth Phillips, an adviser in the university's biochemistry department, and their two sons, who are pupils at Roberts Elementary School.
