Bristol prepares for Bank Holiday washout

The largely dismal summer looks set to continue this Bank Holiday weekend, with forecasters predicting low temperatures and lashing showers.
The outlook is set to rain on the parade of festival-goers heading to Leeds and Reading, as well as those hoping to spend the weekend exploring the great outdoors.
The Met Office predicts rain and cloudy weather in Bristol on Saturday, with a Yellow Alert in place for heavy, potentially thundery showers.
Gusty winds are expected, and there is a risk of surface water flooding.
Temperatures are expected to range between 16 and 19C.
The outlook is set to improve on Sunday, with a sunny afternoon on the cards. The wind seen on the day previous will also have died down. Temperatures could reach 20C.
Heavy rain will make another appearance on Monday, from lunchtime onwards. Gust winds are also expected to pick up again, with temperatures no higher than 17C.
But your three-day weekend needn't be a wash-out. Come rain or shine, you could:
1) Camp in the great indoors Who says tents can only be pitched outside? Dig out your canvas and set up camp in your living room. Alternatively, drape sheets over the sofa, a clothes horse or two dining room chairs. Make the inside of your 'tent' as cosy as possible – think pillows, duvets, cushions and torches. Then do what any good camper would do – eat marshmallows (who cares if they're not toasted?), tell stories, play board games and share a picnic. 2) Set up a home cinema Bring the big screen to you! Make popcorn, brownies or ice-cream beforehand, and pin up a poster listing the treats on offer. Turn off all the lights and use a torch to show everyone to their seats. 3) Have a bake-off When the rain is pouring there's nothing cosier than filling the house with the smell of sweet treats. Be it chocolate chip cookies, banana bread or cupcakes, the little ones will have a field day. Pop on some aprons and give each a part to play – from sieving the flour to stirring the chocolate. For the grown-up household why not whip up something more challenging, such as a souffl or meringue tartlets? 4) Go blue It's right on your doorstep, but have you actually visited the Bristol Blue Glass Factory? If not, now is the perfect opportunity! Watch the glass being blown at the workshop in Brislington, spend time in the museum of glass and join in with hands-on activities. You can even blow your own bubble for just 5. There is no entrance fee, and access is granted to all areas of the Bristol Blue Glass Factory and shop. 5) Go for a dip You don't have to be dry to have fun! Why not go along to your local swimming pool? You could even hunt down the nearest outdoor pool. 6) Make a splash It's raining, why fight it? Pop on your wellie boots and jump in those puddles - Peppa Pig style. Alternatively, go head-to-head in a good old-fashioned water fight. The aim? To get as wet as possible! 7) Kick back For the grown-up household, an afternoon in the pub is time well-spent – or thoroughly enjoyed at least! But why not ditch your usual haunt and try somewhere different? When the rain is coming down in buckets, the ideal pub will be old, cosy, and ideally boast a fireplace. Think steamy windows, a good ale or a glass of red wine. 8) Host a tea party Whether it's just the two of you or you want to invite the whole neighbourhood, a classic tea party is always a hit. Think Victoria sponge, English Breakfast tea (served in a pot), scones and jam, cucumber sandwiches, lemon bars and Bakewell tarts. Go all out and arrange the table with a colourful tablecloth and napkins, and serve the cakes on tiered stands. Complete the look by hanging bunting. Why not stretch out the fun by baking the treats yourself? 9) Get interactive Come rain or shine, there's no shortage of things to do at At-Bristol. Take a journey of discovery through science: Get star struck in the Planetarium, become an animator for the day or take part in real experiments, challenges and activities in Live Lab. 10) Get crafty Whether it's a pasta necklace, Play-Doh castle or a scrapbook, arts and crafts will keep the kids entertained for hours.
